Job summary

Carrington West are assisting their local authority client based in the North of England in the search for a Development Management Manager on a 6 month initial contract. The role leads a Planning team to deliver customer-focused planning services that exceed statutory requirements and ensures compliant decision-making.

The role requires experience in managing complex planning applications, working with Members and external partners, and supporting transformation within the service.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a Planning team to deliver proactive, customer-focused planning services.
• Strong ability to manage complex planning applications and appeals with sound decision making.
• RTPI accredited Planning Degree or equivalent planning qualification is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Lead a Development Management team to deliver proactive, customer-focused planning services.
• Support Service Manager in improvement, transformation, and culture change initiatives.
• Manage complex planning applications and appeals with consistent decisions.
• Build strong relationships with Members, statutory agencies, and external stakeholders.
• Provide leadership, supervision, and technical guidance to staff for professional development.
• Oversee Planning Committee preparation and representation at meetings, hearings, and inquiries.
• Negotiate community benefits via section 106 and CIL agreements.
