Job summary

Carrington West are recruiting a Development Management Manager for a local authority in the North of England on a 6 month initial contract. The role leads a Planning team to deliver proactive, customer-focused planning services and drive service improvement.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing complex planning applications and appeals, with strong leadership and stakeholder engagement. RTPI accredited degree or equivalent planning qualification is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a Development Management team to deliver customer-focused services.
• Ability to support service improvement and transformation within the team.
• Experience managing complex planning applications and appeals with consistent decision-making.
• Ability to build relationships with councillors, agencies and external stakeholders.
• Provide leadership, supervision and technical guidance to staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Development Management professionals to deliver a proactive, customer-focused service.
• Support the Service Manager in a programme of improvement and cultural change.
• Manage complex planning applications and appeals with consistent decision-making.
• Foster relationships with Members, statutory bodies and external partners.
• Oversee Planning Committee preparation and representation at meetings, hearings and inquiries.
• Negotiate community benefits through s106 and CIL where applicable.
