Job summary

ECM Selection in Cambridge seeks a Design Engineer to join the engineering team. You will work with senior engineers to turn innovative concepts into hardware prototypes and deliverables for the defence sector, in a multidisciplinary environment combining mechanical, electronics, software and physics.

Responsibilities

• Work hands-on in a multidisciplinary environment to take concepts to prototype and develop them into deliverable hardware.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to translate ideas into hardware for the defence sector.
• Be based onsite and optionally travel to manufacturing/assembly partners as needed.
• Support development of AI-centric ideas and related hardware products.

Job description

Join this growing defence start-up based in Cambridge who are looking for a Design Engineer. The position will be as part of their engineering team, working alongside senior engineers to take innovative concepts to prototype and develop them into deliverable hardware products for the defence sector. Day-to-day work will be hands-on, and require a strong understanding of engineering within a multidisciplinary environment (combining mechanical, electronics, software and physics).

Requirements:

• Must be eligible for UK security clearance. Applicants needing sponsorship or on any work visa will not be considered.
• Demonstrable R&D experience working in a cross-functional team delivering prototypes and new products.
• Strong CAD experience underpinned through excellent theoretical engineering understanding.
• Experience with additive manufacturing for prototyping.
• Expected to have strong academic background including a 1st / 2.1 degree in mechanical, mechatronics or systems engineering from a top ranked university.

This role is based fully onsite at both workshops and R&D facilities, so applicants should be able to drive and have their own vehicle to easily go between these locations (sited a few miles apart). Some additional travel may be required to go to manufacturing / assembly partners.
