Job summary

ECM Selection in Cambridge is seeking a Design Engineer to join a growing defence start-up team. The role involves working with senior engineers to bring innovative concepts from prototype to deliverable hardware for defence applications, in a multidisciplinary environment.

You'll gain hands-on experience with mechanical, electronics, software and physics integration, and the position is fully onsite at Cambridge workshops and R&D facilities. Travel to partners may be required.

Qualifications

• Eligible for UK security clearance; sponsorship not offered.
• Proven R&D prototyping experience in cross-functional teams.
• Strong CAD experience with solid theoretical engineering understanding.

Join this growing defence start-up based in Cambridge who are looking for a Design Engineer. The position will be as part of their engineering team, working alongside senior engineers to take innovative concepts to prototype and develop them into deliverable hardware products for the defence sector. Day-to-day work will be hands-on, and require a strong understanding of engineering within a multidisciplinary environment (combining mechanical, electronics, software and physics).

Requirements:

• Must be eligible for UK security clearance. Applicants needing sponsorship or on any work visa will not be considered.
• Demonstrable R&D experience working in a cross-functional team delivering prototypes and new products.
• Strong CAD experience underpinned through excellent theoretical engineering understanding.
• Experience with additive manufacturing for prototyping.
• Expected to have strong academic background including a 1st / 2.1 degree in mechanical, mechatronics or systems engineering from a top ranked university.

This role is based fully onsite at both workshops and R&D facilities, so applicants should be able to drive and have their own vehicle to easily go between these locations (sited a few miles apart). Some additional travel may be required to go to manufacturing / assembly partners.
