Job summary

RedTech Recruitment Ltd. is seeking a Senior Design & Development Engineer to lead the end-to-end development of innovative products, from concept to production.

The role requires strong CAD skills, PCB electronics experience, and hands-on prototyping in a multi-disciplined team. Applicants should have a 2:1 or 1st class Engineering degree, excellent academic credentials, and a proven track record in taking products from concept through prototype to production.

Qualifications

• 2.1 or 1st class degree in Engineering, Physics, Design Engineering, Mechanical or Electronics Engineering or closely related field.
• AAA at A Level (or international equivalent) and degree from a leading international university.
• Demonstrable senior design/product development/R&D experience with production transition.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and refine innovative products from early-stage concepts through to production-ready designs.
• Create detailed CAD models and engineering designs.
• Design, build and test physical prototypes.
• Develop PCB-based electronic systems and integrate into wider products.
• Rapidly iterate designs based on testing results.
• Identify and solve complex engineering challenges across multiple disciplines.
• Improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability and efficiency.
• Work closely with engineers and technical specialists across disciplines.
• Support product development throughout the full engineering lifecycle.
• Contribute hands-on engineering activities within workshop and R&D environments.

A rare opportunity for an exceptional Senior Design & Development Engineer to join a cutting‑edge technology company developing highly innovative products at the intersection of advanced engineering and emerging technologies. This is a hands‑on role focused on taking ideas from concept and prototype through to fully developed, manufacturable products. Due to the nature of some client projects, you must be willing and eligible to obtain DV Security Clearance. This generally requires a long‑term UK residency history (typically 10+ years) and the ability to pass government security vetting. You can join the team and work on other commercial projects while your clearance application is progressing.

Requirements for Senior Design & Development Engineer

• A 2.1 or 1st class degree in Engineering, Physics, Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a closely related discipline
• Outstanding academic credentials throughout education. This team is comprised of exceptionally bright engineers and scientists; therefore, candidates should have achieved excellent academic results, including at least AAA at A Level (or international equivalent), alongside a degree from a leading international university
• Demonstrable experience in a senior design, product development or R&D engineering role
• Proven experience taking products from concept through prototype and into production
• Strong CAD design experience
• Experience with PCB electronics and electronic system design
• Extensive additive manufacturing experience including rapid prototyping techniques
• Understanding of CAD and PDM methodologies
• Strong practical engineering ability with excellent workshop and hands‑on development skills
• Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to overcome complex technical challenges
• Ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies and engineering disciplines
• Strong communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
• Willingness to work onsite five days per week
• Ability to travel at short notice when required
• A full UK driving licence, or a commitment to obtaining one within six months of starting

• Personal engineering projects demonstrating a passion for building and creating
• Experience designing and building machines, robotics, automation systems or other complex electromechanical products
• Experience working within fast‑paced R&D environments
• Exposure to product industrialisation and manufacturing processes
