Job summary

CarmichaelUK seeks a Design Engineer to join our civil engineering team in Swindon, delivering infrastructure projects across highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities and development schemes. You will produce, coordinate and review designs from concept to construction, ensuring compliance with standards, client requirements and project specifications.

Degree in Civil Engineering and CAD software proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required.
• Experience as a Design Engineer in civil engineering or infrastructure sectors.
• Knowledge of highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities and development infrastructure design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage or similar packages.
• Understanding of standards such as DMRB, S278, S38, S104, and Sewers for Adoption.
• Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develop civil engineering designs for a range of infrastructure projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and civil engineering projects across highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities, and development schemes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the production, coordination, and review of engineering designs from concept through to construction, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, client requirements, and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop civil engineering designs for a range of infrastructure projects.
• Produce detailed calculations, technical drawings, reports, and specifications.
• Design highways, drainage systems, earthworks, utility diversions, and associated infrastructure.
• Work closely with project managers, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Undertake design reviews and value engineering exercises to improve project outcomes.
• Ensure designs comply with current legislation, industry standards, and health and safety requirements.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, geotechnical, environmental, and utilities engineers.
• Support project delivery from feasibility and concept stages through to construction and completion.
• Attend site visits, surveys, design meetings, and client presentations as required.
• Provide technical support during construction and resolve design-related queries.

Requirements

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience working as a Design Engineer within the civil engineering or infrastructure sector.
• Knowledge of highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities, and development infrastructure design.
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage or similar packages.
• Understanding of relevant design standards including DMRB, S278, S38, S104, and Sewers for Adoption.

Desirable Experience

• Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (ICE or equivalent).
