Job summary
Rolls-Royce is seeking a MoD Secondment In-Service Submarines Design Authority Engineer (Lifecycle Engineer) based in Bristol with hybrid working (Abbey Wood presence three days a week). This two-year secondment involves engaging with Enterprise partners to manage medium to long-term projects, embedding best practices, and driving submarine propulsion availability.

Qualifications
- Experience within the UK Submarines Enterprise (e.g. Navy, MOD, Prime Industry Partner etc)
- Engineering or Numerical degree (or equivalent with experience)
- Knowledge of components/systems functionality and numerical methods
- Experience of working on complex tasks that are novel and ambiguous
- Familiarity with the in service operation environment, including regulatory and compliance requirements
- Experience in troubleshooting and/or problem resolution
- Experience in support/lead cross-functional teams e.g. specialists, suppliers, customers, partners
- Experience developing and challenging maintenance requirements
- Safety Case experience
- Investigative/Questioning mindset
- Experience with Azure DevOps
- Report writing.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring Design Authority Requirements are being met
- Seeking opportunities to embed Rolls-Royce best practice within SDA process
- Leading small projects from concept to delivery to improve submarine propulsion plant availability
- Assist in defect diagnosis and rectification including potential mitigations and travel to UK naval bases
- Provide technical support to help resolve technical queries and arisings
- Identify cost reduction opportunities by reviewing life cycle engineering policies and maintenance planning docs
- Prepare and deliver technical communications to platform providers, regulators, customers, internal stakeholders
- Lead and integrate Health Monitoring system requirements
- Identify requirements for new Health Monitoring System or capability
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal/external stakeholders’ needs
- Gather in-service data and drive continuous improvement via Best Practice and feedback into future programmes.
