Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assist Pharmacy Procurement Manager in overseeing the purchasing of medicines through the JAC ordering system.

To assist in the purchasing of supplies of medicines, equipment and resources

To help the Pharmacy Procurement Manager to ensure orders are placed in an efficient manner in accordance with departmental and Trust financial procedures.

Ensure that the quantities ordered are in line with clinical need and our overall minimum stock turnover target of 12 times per year.

Discuss with our suppliers any supply problems and bring them to the attention of the appropriate clinical pharmacy staff.

Assist the Pharmacy Procurement Manager in ensuring compliance with South East Regional contracts and local buying agreements

To assist the Pharmacy Procurement Manager in updating the JAC and EDI system (Medecator) with new contract information supplied via CMU.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent
  • Registration with GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician

Desirable criteria

  • Practise Supervisor
  • Pharmacy Procurement qualification or equivalent experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Expert knowledge of stock control
  • Knowledge of basic accounting tools, such as balance sheets

Experience

Essential criteria

  • 5 years' experience of working in a hospital pharmacy

Desirable criteria

  • 1 year' experience working in pharmacy procurement
  • Experience of training and managing staff

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge and experience of checking dispensing prescriptions.
  • Knowledge of departmental SOPs.
  • Knowledge of NVQ process in pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of implementing KPIs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to supervise staff.
  • Ability to manage workload.
