Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking an experienced Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management of Ashfield Care service. You will lead care teams to ensure safe, person-centred care in line with care plans, policies, and budgets.

You will supervise staff, manage rotas, support recruitment, conduct appraisals, promote safeguarding, and maintain high standards of English communication across the team. A Level 3 Care qualification is required.

Job description

Are you an experienced care professional or Team Leader ready to take the next step in your career? Do you have the leadership skills to support and inspire a team whilst ensuring outstanding care for vulnerable adults? We are looking for a dedicated and motivated Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management of our Ashfield Care service. This is an exciting opportunity which combines leadership responsibilities and helping to deliver high-quality, person-centred services that make a real difference to people's lives. About the Role As Deputy Manager, you will lead and support care teams to ensure services are delivered safely, effectively, and in line with agreed care plans, quality standards, policies, and procedures. Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will play a key role in managing staff performance, service delivery, resources, and safeguarding responsibilities, whilst maintaining a strong focus on the wellbeing and independence of the people we support., You will:

  • Support the Registered Manager in the overall management and development of the Care Unit.
  • Coordinate and organise care services for new and transferring individuals.
  • Ensure care is delivered in accordance with policies, procedures, care plans, and service level agreements.
  • Provide direct care for service users in emergency situations and in other situations where needed.
  • Lead, supervise, and motivate care staff to achieve high standards of performance.
  • Carry out performance appraisals and identify training and development needs.
  • Support recruitment, selection, induction, and retention activities.
  • Provide regular supervision and day-to-day guidance to staff.
  • Plan and manage staffing rotas, including arranging appropriate cover.
  • Authorise timesheets and support financial administration processes.
  • Assist with budget monitoring and delegated financial responsibilities.
  • Promote effective communication with service users, families, carers, colleagues, and partner agencies.
  • Ensure staff comply with health and safety requirements and risk management procedures.
  • Promote and uphold safeguarding practices at all times.
  • Previous experience in a care setting, including supervising or leading staff.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Experience of staff supervision, performance management, and development.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and risk management principles.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
  • The ability to make decisions confidently and work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills.
  • A satisfactory DBS check is required for this post.
  • It is an expectation that Deputy Managers actively develop their knowledge, skills, and competencies in line with recognised management standards.
  • This role involves regular spoken communication and requires a confident use of the English language.
  • A level 3 qualification in Care, Promoting Independence or equivalent is required.
