Job description

Job Overview

About The Role

Join our Operational Team and help keep our vehicles safe, compliant, and ready to deliver the brilliant service AO is known for. You’ll be hands‑on every day—securing loads, supporting maintenance, completing checks, and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

You’ll work closely with our engineers, self‑employed crews, and contractors to keep our fleet moving. If something needs fixing, organising, or sharing, you’ll be the go‑to person who gets it sorted.

Your work keeps our drivers safe, our customers happy, and our standards sky‑high. Because at AO, every delivery counts—and you’ll help make every one of them amazing.

  • Salary: £28311.90 per annum
  • Hours: 5 on 2 off (4am - 13:00pm) and 5 on 3 off (12:00pm - 21:00pm)
  • Job Type: Full time and permanent contract
  • Location: Unit 1, Middleton Avenue, Strutherhill Ind. Estate, Larkhall, ML9 2UN

If the shift pattern works for you but you’re only available for AM or PM hours, please still get in touch. We’re committed to finding the right people and creating opportunities. We don’t believe in barriers, we break them down together.

Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing
  • Make sure every vehicle is loaded safely, secure, and fully compliant with transport rules — AO‑standard from the start.
  • Keep an eye on deliveries through the day and step in fast when something needs sorting.
  • Support new starters by showing them the ropes — Safe Systems of Work, Health & Safety, and how we do things at AO.
  • Share daily/weekly priorities so the whole team’s on the same page — great handovers and clear comms are a must.
  • Work side‑by‑side with the team, helping split tasks and keeping everyone moving.
  • Carry out alcohol testing when required to keep our operation safe and compliant.
  • Handle small vehicle repairs and get servicing booked in on time.
  • Chat with Drivers, answering questions and resolving issues with a friendly, helpful approach.
  • Tranship and reload vehicles to keep the operation flowing smoothly.
  • Complete in‑house reports accurately and on time to keep everything running behind the scenes.
A Few Things About You
  • Solid understanding of safe loading and transport compliance — making sure every vehicle is secure and meets the rules.
  • Strong delivery‑monitoring and quick problem‑solving skills to handle issues as they pop up.
  • Experience supporting and training new starters, especially around Safe Systems of Work and key Health & Safety basics.
  • Clear, confident communication — sharing priorities, giving great handovers, and keeping operations flowing.
  • A hands‑on team player who can organise tasks, support colleagues, and get stuck in.
  • Basic vehicle maintenance know‑how, from minor repairs to arranging timely services.
  • Great driver engagement and a customer‑focused approach, handling questions professionally and building positive relationships.
