Job summary

Adler and Allan in the United Kingdom is seeking a Depot Manager to oversee day-to-day depot operations, ensure efficient stock control and timely deliveries to construction sites, while maintaining equipment and facilities.

You will report to the Supply and Procurement Manager, supervise depot operatives and drivers, enforce health and safety policies, and coordinate deliveries with site managers, including regular stock checks and PPE management.

To manage the day-to-day operations of the depot and depot area, ensuring efficient stock control, safe and timely deliveries to construction sites using vehicles provided, and the upkeep of equipment and facilities. The Depot Manager plays a key role in supporting projects by maintaining high standards of organisation, safety, and compliance.

To manage the day-to-day operations of the depot and depot area, ensuring efficient stock control, safe and timely deliveries to construction sites using vehicles provided, and the upkeep of equipment and facilities. The Depot Manager plays a key role in supporting projects by maintaining high standards of organisation, safety, and compliance.

The role will report into the Supply and Procurement Manager.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

• Monitor and manage stock levels of materials and consumables via Focal Point or similar ERP systems.
• Coordinate and oversee deliveries to various sites.
• To ensure that the depot and parking areas are kept clean, safe and ensure that waste is minimised and stored/treated/disposed of responsibly.
• Ensure the depot is secure each evening including the main access gate.
• Oversee the storage and handling of drainage materials and construction supplies.
• Ensure all plant and equipment are stored securely and appropriately, including the monitoring and completion of pre use plant checks.
• Conduct regular stock checks and reconcile discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate records of stock movements and deliveries.
• Liaise with site managers to schedule deliveries efficiently.
• Conduct regular inspections of ladders, plant equipment, and depot infrastructure.
• Ensure PPE levels are maintained and distributed appropriately.
• Promote and enforce health and safety policies across the depot.
• Supervise and support depot operatives and drivers.
• Initiate bi-weekly catch ups with the deliveries teams and take part in annual appraisals.
• Provide training and support to ensure safe working practices.
• Manage and validate drivers hours for the drivers within the team, including weekly sign off.
• Adapt to be able to support the team by carrying out deliveries when demand is high.

Qualifications

Essential:

• Proven experience in depot or depot management within a construction or logistics environment.
• Valid UK driving licence (Category C or C+E for HGV operations).
• CPC qualification.
• Forklift / Telehandler licence.
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, including PPE and equipment inspections.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Competent in stock control and inventory systems.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable:

• Experience with drainage materials and construction site logistics.
• Knowledge of plant equipment maintenance and inspection procedures.
• IT literacy, including experience with stock management software.
