Job summary

Adler & Allan Ltd is seeking a Depot Manager to oversee day-to-day depot operations in the UK. You will manage stock, coordinate site deliveries and maintain high safety and compliance standards.

The role reports to the Supply and Procurement Manager and requires team leadership and strong organisation. Key responsibilities include stock control, delivery scheduling, site liaison, and regular inspections of equipment and depot facilities.

Qualifications

• Proven experience managing a depot or depot operations in construction/logistics.
• Valid UK driving licence (Category C or C+E for HGV operations).
• Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and PPE handling.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Proficient with stock management and ERP systems.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage stock levels of materials and consumables.
• Coordinate and oversee deliveries to various sites.
• Keep depot and parking areas clean, safe and compliant with waste management rules.
• Ensure depot is secure after hours, including main access gate.
• Oversee storage and handling of drainage materials and construction supplies.
• Ensure plant and equipment are stored securely and undergo pre-use checks.
• Conduct regular stock checks and reconcile discrepancies.
• Maintain records of stock movements and deliveries.
• Liaise with site managers to schedule deliveries efficiently.
• Inspect ladders, plant equipment and depot infrastructure regularly.
• Ensure PPE levels are maintained and distributed appropriately.
• Promote and enforce health and safety policies across the depot.
• Supervise and support depot operatives and drivers.
• Lead bi-weekly catch ups with deliveries teams and participate in annual appraisals.
• Provide training to ensure safe working practices.

Job description

To manage the day‑to‑day operations of the depot and depot area, ensuring efficient stock control, safe and timely deliveries to construction sites using vehicles provided, and the upkeep of equipment and facilities. The Depot Manager plays a key role in supporting projects by maintaining high standards of organisation, safety, and compliance.

The role will report into the Supply and Procurement Manager.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

• Monitor and manage stock levels of materials and consumables via Focal Point or similar ERP systems.
• Coordinate and oversee deliveries to various sites.
• To ensure that the depot and parking areas are kept clean, safe and ensure that waste is minimised and stored/treated/disposed of responsibly.
• Ensure the depot is secure each evening including the main access gate.
• Oversee the storage and handling of drainage materials and construction supplies.
• Ensure all plant and equipment are stored securely and appropriately, including the monitoring and completion of pre use plant checks.
• Conduct regular stock checks and reconcile discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate records of stock movements and deliveries.
• Liaise with site managers to schedule deliveries efficiently.
• Conduct regular inspections of ladders, plant equipment, and depot infrastructure.
• Ensure PPE levels are maintained and distributed appropriately.
• Promote and enforce health and safety policies across the depot.
• Supervise and support depot operatives and drivers.
• Initiate bi‑weekly catch ups with the deliveries teams and take part in annual appraisals.
• Provide training and support to ensure safe working practices.
• Manage and validate drivers hours for the drivers within the team, including weekly sign off.
• Adapt to be able to support the team by carrying out deliveries when demand is high.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in depot or depot management within a construction or logistics environment.
• Valid UK driving licence (Category C or C+E for HGV operations).
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, including PPE and equipment inspections.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Competent in stock control and inventory systems.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience with drainage materials and construction site logistics.
• Knowledge of plant equipment maintenance and inspection procedures.
• IT literacy, including experience with stock management software.
