Job summary

West Lodge Care Home in the United Kingdom is seeking an enthusiastic Activity Co-ordinator to plan and lead a diverse programme of meaningful activities for residents with dementia. You will tailor activities to each resident’s life story, interests and abilities to help them stay connected and engaged.

You will build links with families and the local community, manage the activities budget and resources, and share residents’ achievements through newsletters and displays while obtaining consent

Qualifications

• Creative and energetic individual with a love for working with older people.
• Patience and empathy with excellent communication abilities.
• Good organisational skills and ability to plan ahead.
• Confidence leading groups and adapting activities for different abilities.
• Willingness to learn about dementia and person-centred care.

Responsibilities

• Know residents well by recording life histories, hobbies and preferences in care plans.
• Plan and deliver a varied weekly programme of group and one-to-one activities (music, arts, gentle exercise, quizzes, baking, gardening, pamper sessions).
• Provide dementia-friendly activities (reminiscence, sensory sessions, rummage boxes, doll/pet therapy, music for wellbeing).
• Offer regular one-to-one and in-room sessions for end-of-life or bed-bound residents.
• Organise celebrations, themed days, entertainers, outings, and visits from community groups.
