Job description

Are you creative, energetic and passionate about bringing joy to people’s lives? West Lodge Care Home is a 60-bedroom home providing residential care with dementia support. We’re looking for an enthusiastic Activity Co-ordinator to plan and lead a varied programme of meaningful activities. You’ll help every resident, whatever their needs or abilities, to stay connected, engaged and living life to the full.

About the role

As Activity Co-ordinator, you will lead the home’s activities programme for residents receiving residential care with dementia support. You will tailor activities to each person’s life story, interests and abilities, so that everyone can take part in something that matters to them.

Key responsibilities

  • Get to know each resident, including their life history, hobbies and preferences, and record these in their care plan
  • Plan and deliver a varied weekly programme of group and one-to-one activities, such as music, arts and crafts, gentle exercise, quizzes, baking, gardening and pamper sessions
  • Provide dementia-friendly activities such as reminiscence, sensory sessions, rummage boxes, doll or pet therapy and music for wellbeing
  • Offer regular one-to-one and in-room sessions for residents receiving end-of-life care, or who are cared for in bed
  • Organise celebrations, themed days, entertainers, outings and visits from community groups, schools and faith groups
  • Build links with the local community and help residents stay connected with family and friends, including through video calls
  • Record residents’ participation and wellbeing, and review how activities are meeting their needs
  • Involve care staff, families and volunteers in activities
  • Manage the activities budget and resources
  • Share residents’ achievements through newsletters, displays and social media, with consent
About you
  • Creativity, enthusiasm and a genuine love of working with older people
  • Patience, empathy and excellent communication skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to plan ahead
  • Confidence leading groups and adapting activities for different abilities
  • Willingness to learn about dementia and person-centred care
  • An activities-related qualification, such as a Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Activity Provision in Social Care

In addition to this vacancy, we are also looking for dedicated colleagues to join our Bank team. Bank staff work flexible shifts across our care homes, helping provide high-quality care when extra support is needed. This is ideal for anyone seeking flexible hours and the opportunity to work across different locations.
