Job summary

Places for People is seeking a Data Architect to lead the design and governance of our data platform within the Data and Platform Engineering team. The role focuses on decentralised, Data as a Product principles, ensuring interoperable, well-governed data products and robust data pipelines across batch, streaming, and event-driven architectures.

The Data Architect collaborates with Principal Data Platform/Engineer peers, mentors engineers, and aligns with enterprise standards.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Data Solutions Architect or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of data mesh principles and data warehousing concepts.
• Expertise in data platform architecture and ETL/ELT processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

• Data Platform Architecture Design: oversee architecture design for the data platform.
• Architectural Documentation: produce clear diagrams and docs.
• Domain-Oriented Ownership: promote DaP mindset across development.
• Tool and Service Evaluation: assess tools, infra, and services for the platform.
• Architectural Standards: establish standards and reference architectures.
• Governance: design solutions that meet governance, security and quality.
• Data Product Design Standards: ensure discoverable, interoperable data products.
• Data Pipeline Design: design robust batch, event-driven and streaming pipelines.
• Operational Considerations: address security, scalability, performance, observability.
