Job summary

Places for People is seeking a Data Architect in Manchester to design and govern a data platform aligned with data mesh principles. You will lead architecture design, governance, and data product standards while partnering with principal engineers.

You will shape data pipelines, evaluate tools, ensure interoperability, security, and scalability, and mentor engineers across the data team. The role offers a clear path to influence PfP's data strategy.

Qualifications

• Experience designing data platform architecture across large-scale datasets.
• Deep understanding of data mesh principles, data governance, and interoperability.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex solutions to engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

• Oversee data platform architecture design to meet current and future needs.
• Produce architectural documentation, diagrams, and reference architectures.
• Embed domain-oriented ownership and Data as a Product mindset across development.
• Evaluate tools, infrastructure, and services to enhance the platform.
• Set and maintain architectural standards, governance, and best practices.
• Design solutions that meet governance, security, and quality requirements.
• Ensure data products are discoverable, interoperable, and trustworthy.
• Design robust data pipelines (batch, event-driven, streaming).
• Address security, scalability, performance, observability, and user experience.
