Job summary

South Gloucestershire Council is seeking an Information Analyst to drive service improvements across the Education Service. You will use statistical data, Power BI dashboards and reporting to provide insights and support decision-making for children, young people and adults.

Responsibilities include analysing performance, creating dashboards, supporting service managers, and delivering statutory returns and FOI responses.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent experience in statistical or numerical computing content.
• Experience with Mosaic Case Management System and Capita.
• Strong analytical skills and understanding of children, young people policy, data and performance.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As an Information Analyst, you will play a key role in driving service improvements across the council. By using your technical and analytical skills to provide accurate data, meaningful insights and clear reporting, you will help shape decision-making, enhance service delivery and contribute to improved outcomes for children, young people and adults.

What You Will Be Doing

• You will analyse performance information across the Education Service, identifying trends, investigating the causes of both strong and poor performance, and providing insights that drive improvement.
• Building on your existing knowledge of Power BI, you will create and share dashboards, manage audience apps and connect via an SQL gateway to Mosaic and Capita. Working closely with service managers and operational teams, you will provide guidance and support to help them maximise the value of their Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Under the direction of a senior manager, you may also contribute to improvement projects, helping to identify opportunities to enhance service performance, strengthen data quality and support evidence‑based decision‑making.
• You will take the lead on the timely completion of statutory returns and respond to a range of ad‑hoc information requests, including Freedom of Information enquiries.
• It will be your responsibility to produce accurate, relevant and reliable information to support elected members and senior managers in making informed decisions on issues such as resource allocation, service planning and policy development across a wide range of services and client groups.
• Working collaboratively as part of a team, you will deliver daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements, supporting the new reforms.

What We Need From You

• You must be educated to degree level in statistical or significant numerical and/or computing content or equivalent relevant qualification or have experience of working in an analytical environment within a large organisation.
• You will have experience of working with the Mosaic Case Management System and Capita.
• It is essential that you have strong analytical capabilities as well as a sound understanding of the children and young people policy, data and performance landscape.
• With experience of collaborating with a range of stakeholders and partners, you will have the skills to gather requirements, solve complex problems and demonstrate how data‑driven insights can support service improvement and informed decision‑making.
• Ideally, you will have, or a willingness to develop your skills, in writing reports using MS SQL, extracting and analysing data and presenting information in a clear and meaningful way, alongside strong technical skills in Excel.

• Your salary is pro-rata to hours worked.
• This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Badminton Road, Yate and from home.
