Job summary

BT Group in Birmingham is seeking a Data & AI Governance Specialist to embed governance frameworks across the organisation and support compliance with GDPR, AI Act and related regulations.

You’ll work with Digital, Legal, Compliance and Engineering teams to lead governance forums, develop reporting, track maturity and drive improvements while promoting responsible AI practices within BT Group.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in Data Governance, Information Governance, Data Management or Governance Risk & Compliance.
• Strong understanding of Data Governance frameworks, policies, controls and operating models.
• Experience with GDPR, AI regulatory requirements and related frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary Data & AI Governance contact for BT units and support policy adoption.
• Embed governance controls with data owners and engineering teams.
• Lead Data & AI Governance Working Groups and councils.
• Prepare governance reporting, risk updates and executive briefings.
• Monitor governance maturity and ensure compliance against metrics.
• Support implementation of data ownership, metadata, classification, retention and quality controls.
• Assist in governance training and awareness sessions.
• Collaborate with central governance teams to reflect business needs in enterprise frameworks.
• Track risks, issues and remediation actions, driving continuous improvement.
