BT Group is recruiting a Data Governance Manager to lead the development and execution of BT’s data governance framework across business units. The role focuses on governance, data quality and compliance, with collaboration across functions to embed data as a strategic asset.

The position offers a hybrid 3 days in office and 2 days remote, with focus on transformation and guidance to a high‑performing team. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and stakeholder skills.

Qualifications

• Familiar with Data Governance frameworks (e.g. DAMA).
• Knowledge of regulations related to data compliance and security.
• Understanding of data models, lineage, and enterprise data platforms.
• Ability to document and visualise data flow from source to consumption.

Responsibilities

• Lead and implement BT Group data governance frameworks, policies, standards and procedures.
• Define, monitor and manage processes for governance policy compliance.
• Ensure data compliance with internal policies and external regulations (GDPR, etc).
• Improve data accessibility while maintaining security and compliance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to secure buy‑in and sponsorship for governance initiatives.
• Mentor and coach a team of professionals to execute the governance strategy.

About the role

Pan business this role supports and implements the Business data strategy to deliver Business strategic outcomes. The role will also support implementation of an effective model for Business on data governance, data management and data quality.

What you’ll be doing

Data Governance

• Lead, develop and implement BT Group data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures ensuring alignment with business objectives and establishing data as an asset that delivers value.
• Define, monitor and manage processes for monitoring data governance policies, procedures, and standards related to compliance.
• Ensure data compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, EU AI ACT).
• Improve data accessibility while maintaining security and compliance e.g. contractual sovereign requirements.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders across business units to ensure buy-in and sponsorship of data governance initiatives.
• Act as a conduit between central governance and delivery units, ensuring consistent application of data governance standards.
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data governance control processes and platforms.
• Provide training and guidance on data governance best practices and tools.
• Mentor and coach a team of professionals, fostering growth and maintaining a high-performing team capable of executing the governance strategy.

Data Transformation

• Input into shaping the Data transformation program and business owner for the Customer Data Handling Obligation project.

Essential Skills / Experience

• Familiar with Data Governance frameworks (e.g. DAMA).
• Knowledge of applicable regulation and legislation related to data compliance and data security and application within organizations.
• Knowledge of data models, lineage, and enterprise data platforms.
• Data Lineage: Ability to document and visualise data flow from source to consumption.

Business Expertise

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Influence across Business functions on data governance topics.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Data Owners, Stewards, and business units to resolve data governance issues.
• Ability to identify and implement enhancements to data government framework.
• Understanding of business-critical data domains (e.g. customer, product, finance) and their operational impact.
• Translating technical data issues into business relevant language for non-technical audiences.
