Job summary

Standard Life is looking for an AI Data Protection Specialist to join our IT Risk, Data and AI Governance team. The role supports safe, lawful use of AI across the organisation in a hybrid setup across Birmingham and other UK locations.

You will advise on data protection risks for AI use cases, contribute to DPIAs, maintain governance artefacts and guidance, and work with technology, legal, privacy and business teams to enable compliant innovation.

Qualifications

• Experience in AI governance or risk within a regulated environment.
• Familiarity with ISO42001, NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act or related ethics/regulatory guidance.
• Knowledge of AI concepts and risks (model risk, bias, transparency, data usage).
• Strong understanding of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act, transparency and individual rights.
• Experience advising on data protection risks in change initiatives and technology delivery.
• Experience producing DPIAs, governance papers, guidance or management information.

Responsibilities

• Advise on data protection considerations for AI use cases.
• Support DPIAs and related assessments.
• Contribute to AI use case reviews through governance forums.
• Maintain data protection governance artefacts, registers and guidance aligned to AI activity.
• Develop AI-specific data protection guidance and raise awareness across the organisation.
