Job summary

Abingdon and Witney College is seeking a Lecturer in Dance and Study Programme Lead in Performing Arts at Abingdon. The role combines high-quality teaching with programme leadership to shape students’ academic and pastoral journeys.

You will teach the dance specialism within performing arts, lead course planning, monitor progress, oversee assessment and ensure learners receive outstanding support throughout their studies. A teaching qualification is required or to be pursued.

Qualifications

• A degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in Dance or a related subject.
• A recognised teaching qualification, or a willingness to work towards one.
• Significant experience teaching Acting and Musical Theatre within further education, higher education or industry training settings.
• Strong practical knowledge of performance, rehearsal and production processes.
• Excellent teaching, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire learners from a wide range of backgrounds.
• Experience of providing pastoral support and helping students achieve positive outcomes.
• A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and learner success.

Responsibilities

• Planning, delivering and assessing high-quality learning opportunities in dance and wider performing arts disciplines.
• Inspiring students to develop their acting, singing and dancing skills, helping them become confident and versatile performers.
• Managing and coordinating study programmes, ensuring effective course planning, assessment and quality assurance processes.
• Taking ownership of learner progress, conducting tutorials, academic reviews and performance management meetings to support student achievement and progression.
• Creating engaging learning materials and using a range of teaching approaches to meet the diverse needs of learners.
• Supporting students through rehearsals, productions and public performances, helping maintain the department's reputation for high-quality shows.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, employers and industry partners to enhance the student experience.
• Monitoring course data, maintaining accurate records and contributing to continuous quality improvement across the curriculum area.
