Job Opportunity: Customs Compliance Specialist

Location: Southampton

Salary: £36,000 - £40,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Are you a customs expert with a passion for compliance and continuous improvement? We're looking for a Customs Compliance Specialist to join our growing logistics team and play a key role in ensuring our operations remain fully compliant with UK customs regulations while driving forward strategic projects and supporting business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure full compliance with UK customs regulations across all operations
• Act as the in-house expert on HM Customs & Revenue matters, supporting the business with customs procedures and legal obligations
• Support the logistics team's ongoing growth and improvement efforts, delivering better value to our clients
• Provide specialist support to the Customs Inventory Link project at our Southampton Terminal (launching in 2025)
• Work closely with the Finance team to resolve Duty Deferment Account queries and act as a key liaison between Logistics, Finance, and HMRC
• Stay current with the latest HMRC requirements and updates, ensuring the business adapts accordingly
• Assist with import/export operations and help identify opportunities to increase company revenue through international trade
• Provide leadership and support to colleagues, contributing to team development and effectiveness

What We're Looking For:

• Minimum 5 years' experience in a customs clearance role
• In-depth understanding of UK and international customs regulations, including tariff classification, valuation, and rules of origin
• Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience in T1 document creation, discharge, and set-up
• Proven ability to lead and support a team
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders
