In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation’s import and export activities comply with all applicable regulations and ensuring customs compliance, mitigating risks associated with international trade, leading on any audits relating to export, customs and compliance, and compiling required information.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to all customs regulations, including ITAR, EAR, UK customs laws, and other export control laws.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trade compliance regulations and provide guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities concerning customs compliance matters.
- Submit applications, maintenance, and renewal of export licenses, including ITAR licenses, UK Open General Export Licenses (OGELs), Standard Individual Export License (SIELs) and Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs).
- Ensure accurate classification of products under the United States Munitions List (USML), Commerce Control List (CCL), and UK Strategic Export Control Lists.
- Ensure compliance with UK import duty and VAT requirements, including the accurate calculation and payment of import duties and VAT reclaims where applicable.
- Liaise with government agencies, including the Department for Business and Trade, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), the Department of Commerce, and the Department of State.
- Conduct internal audits and assessments to evaluate compliance effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Demonstrable experience in customs compliance, export controls, or international trade compliance.
- Strong understanding of ITAR, EAR, UK trade compliance regulations, and customs procedures.
- Experience in managing export licenses, including UK-specific licensing regimes.
- Knowledge of UK import duty and VAT regulations.
- Whilst not essential, experience of working in the aviation industry would be a significant advantage.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet tight timescales
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist, Export Compliance Professional) and/or a degree in International Trade, Business, Law or a related field are highly desirable.
