Job summary

Bradford Council's Wyke Library seeks two Customer Support Assistants to help deliver library services and support daily operations in a welcoming community space. You’ll assist with finding books, using the catalogue, and running activities for children and adults.

Successful applicants will join a friendly team, with shifts including evenings/weekends. Training is provided, and the role supports digital skills and community wellbeing across local populations.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome customers and provide friendly, inclusive, professional service.
  • Help customers find books and resources; support borrowing and catalog use.
  • Deliver activities for children, families and adults (Storytime/Rhymetime).
  • Promote reading, digital inclusion and community wellbeing.
  • Work with colleagues and partners to deliver library services.
  • Keep the library safe, welcoming and well organised.
  • Support day-to-day running including stock, systems, admin, opening/closing.

Customer Support Assistant (Libraries)

We are recruiting two Customer Support Assistants for Wyke Library. Do you enjoy helping people and making a difference in your community? Bradford Libraries are welcoming community spaces where people of all ages come to read, learn, connect and discover new opportunities. Every day, we help children develop a love of reading, support people to build digital skills, provide welcoming spaces for local communities and deliver activities that improve health, wellbeing and social connection. We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic people who enjoy working with others and want to make a real difference. As a Customer Support Assistant, you’ll help deliver high-quality library services while supporting the day-to-day running of the library.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Welcome customers and provide a friendly, inclusive and professional service.
  • Help customers find books, information and library resources, and support them to borrow and return items, use the library catalogue, self-service machines, computers, online services and digital resources.
  • Deliver and support activities for children, families and adults, including Storytime and Rhymetime.
  • Promote reading, learning, digital inclusion and community wellbeing.
  • Work alongside colleagues, volunteers and community partners to deliver engaging library services.
  • Help keep the library safe, welcoming and well organised.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the library, including stock management, library systems, administration, opening and closing the building, security and health and safety procedures.

  • The flexibility to work across library opening hours, including weekends and evenings where required

Previous library experience isn’t essential. We'll provide the training and support.

Current Working Pattern

We believe in being transparent about the working pattern for these vacancies, so the current two-week rota is shown below. The rota forms the current working pattern for these posts. Successful applicants should expect to work these shifts if appointed. While we aim to keep working patterns as consistent as possible, Bradford Libraries is an operational service and working patterns may be amended to meet service needs, such as changes to opening hours, staffing requirements or service delivery. Please ensure you are able to work the rota below before submitting your application.
