Job summary

Nelson Permanent Placements is seeking a building maintenance multi-trade operative to be permanently based on a static project in North Birmingham. The role involves maintaining a series of commercial buildings on one site and performing reactive repairs across carpentry, plumbing, painting, and tiling.

You will aim for first-time fixes, ensure safety compliance, and communicate effectively with clients and occupants on a busy site.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds in a core trade; ability to work across secondary trades.
• CSCS certification and a valid UK driving licence.
• Experience in multi-trade, facilities maintenance, or general building upkeep.

Responsibilities

• Multi-Trade Repairs: day-to-day reactive maintenance, patch repairs, and installations (basic plumbing, carpentry, patching, painting/tiling).
• First-Time Fix: aim to complete repairs on the first visit.
• Customer Care: work respectfully inside occupied commercial spaces, clear communication with public and clients.
• Compliance & Safety: follow health and safety regulations, use PPE, maintain a safe working area.
• Digital Admin: log updates on a tablet/PDA, manage stock, record work orders.

Nelson Permanent Placements are recruiting for a building maintenance multi trade operative to be based permanantly on a static project in North Birmingham.

The candidate will be responsible for maintenance on a series of commercial buildings on one site.

Core Responsibilities

• Multi-Trade Repairs: Perform day-to‑day reactive maintenance, patch repairs, and installations. This typically includes basic plumbing (leaks, sanitaryware), carpentry (doors, locks), patching, and painting or tiling.
• First‑Time Fix: Aim to complete repairs on the first visit to maintain high customer satisfaction.
• Customer Care: Work respectfully inside occupied commercial spaces, communicating clearly with the public and clients.
• Compliance & Safety: Follow health and safety regulations, use personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a safe working area.
• Digital Admin: Use a company tablet or PDA to log job updates, manage stock, and record completed work orders.

Key Requirements

• Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds in a core trade (such as carpentry, plumbing, or plastering), plus working skills in secondary trades.
• Certifications: CSCS and a valid UK driving licence.
• Experience: Background in multi trade, facilities maintenance, or general building upkeep.
