Job summary

Maidstone Borough Council is seeking a compassionate Bereavement Services Technical Officer to join Vinters Park Crematorium and Maidstone Cemetery. The role covers cremator operation, chapel support, cemetery duties, and precise record keeping to ensure dignified services.

The post requires GCSEs (Maths & English) and offers a pathway to CTTS training, with a 37-hour week and core hours 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday. Applicants should be comfortable handling cremated remains and equipment.

Qualifications

• GCSE level or equivalent including Maths & English is required or beneficial.
• Experience with cremators is beneficial.
• Willingness to obtain Crematorium Technicians Training Scheme (CTTS).

Responsibilities

• Operate cremators safely and maintain accurate records for funerals, cremations, memorials and legal requirements.
• Deliver a safe, dignified and professional service at the crematorium and cemetery.
• Support front-of-house chapel activities and duties across the site on a rotation basis.
• Assist with burials, scatterings and interments of ashes with sensitivity.
• Maintain memorial safety inspections and communicate with grave owners as required.
• Contribute to high-quality presentation of the crematorium and site, including garden and site duties.
• Assist with funeral paperwork and bereavement administration.
