Job summary

Maidstone Borough Council is seeking a compassionate Bereavement Services Technical Officer to join Vinters Park Crematorium and Maidstone Cemetery. The role blends cremator operation, chapel support, and cemetery duties to deliver a dignified, respectful service while ensuring safety and accuracy.

You will split time between crematory operations, front-of-house support and wider-site tasks on a rotation. GCSEs and willingness to train are required, with flexible hours and governance aligned to

Qualifications

• GCSE level or equivalent (including Maths & English).
• Experience supporting people through bereavement is beneficial.
• Willingness to obtain Crematorium Technicians Training Scheme (CTTS) qualification.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the chapel, music and visual tributes, monitor services and support dignified arrivals and departures.
• Safely operate cremators and maintain accurate records of funerals, cremations, memorials and statutory requirements.
• Support burials, scatterings and interments with sensitivity and care.
• Carry out memorial safety inspections and communicate with grave owners as needed.
• Maintain high-quality site presentation including gardening and site duties.
• Assist with funeral paperwork and bereavement administration.
