Job summary

Somerset Council is seeking a dedicated Crematorium Operative at Taunton Crematorium to support cremation, burial and grounds maintenance. You will train to become a Cremator Operator and play a key role in delivering a respectful bereavement service to families and funeral professionals.

The role requires compassion, customer focus, teamwork and the ability to work outdoors in all weather, with opportunities for professional development and salary within the Grade 13 range.

Qualifications

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.
• Willingness to undertake training, including Cremator Operator qualifications.
• Ability to carry out physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Commitment to health and safety standards.
• Experience of using tools, machinery or equipment safely.
• Basic IT skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Full UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Support cremation services and undertake training to become a Cremator Operator.
• Assist with funeral, burial and memorial services with dignity and professionalism.
• Carry out grave preparation and support burial activities.
• Maintain cemetery and crematorium grounds, including grass cutting and general upkeep.
• Operate vehicles, machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
• Ensure buildings, equipment and work areas are clean, secure and well maintained.
• Provide courteous and compassionate support to families, funeral directors, clergy and visitors.
• Follow health and safety, environmental and operational procedures.
• Contribute to record keeping, memorial inspections and other service-related duties.
