Job summary

Think Accountancy and Finance has a position for an experienced Credit Controller in Wolverhampton. The role focuses on managing the sales ledger, collecting outstanding payments and maintaining strong customer relationships to ensure cash flow.

The successful candidate will support month-end processes and assist the wider finance team. Responsibilities include monitoring aged debt, reconciling accounts, resolving invoice queries and establishing credit terms.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Credit Controller or Sales Ledger role.
• Strong understanding of credit control procedures and debt collection.
• Confident telephone manner with customer relationships.
• Good negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• IT skills, particularly Excel and accounting software.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
• Professional but persistent approach to collecting outstanding payments.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the sales ledger, ensuring customer accounts are accurate.
• Proactively chase outstanding payments by telephone and email.
• Monitor aged debt reports and prioritise overdue accounts.
• Allocate customer payments and reconcile accounts.
• Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies and payment queries.
• Establish and monitor customer credit limits and payment terms.
• Liaise with sales teams and customers to resolve outstanding issues.
• Produce regular aged debt and cash collection reports for management.
• Assist with month-end procedures and sales ledger reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate records of customer communications and collection activity.
• Identify potential credit risks and escalate when appropriate.
• Support wider finance team with additional accounting and admin duties.
