Job summary

Adler & Allan is seeking a Credit Controller to manage customer accounts and ensure timely debt collection across a diverse portfolio.

Responsibilities include resolving billing queries, supporting sales ledger activities, and maintaining accurate records while collaborating with depots and operations to improve collection performance. A CICM qualification or progress is preferred.

Job Description

As a Credit Controller, you'll be responsible for managing customer accounts and ensuring timely collection of outstanding debt across a diverse customer portfolio. Working closely with operational teams, customers, and colleagues across the business, you'll help maintain healthy cash flow while delivering outstanding customer service.

You'll play an important role in resolving billing queries, supporting sales ledger activities, managing customer accounts, and helping to maintain accurate financial records.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Managing the collection of outstanding debt in line with company policies and agreed payment terms.
  • Building strong relationships with customers through regular contact via telephone, email, and customer portals.
  • Investigating and resolving billing and invoice queries to support prompt payment.
  • Maintaining accurate records of customer communications, payment commitments, and remittances.
  • Updating cash forecasts with promised payments and relevant account information.
  • Supporting the day-to-day management of the sales ledger, including:
    • New account setup and maintenance.
    • Cash posting and allocation.
    • Credit note processing.
    • Credit checking and risk assessment.
    • Account monitoring and maintenance.
  • Checking, producing and issuing month-end statements.
  • Maintaining accurate customer account records and ensuring data integrity.
  • Collaborating with depots and operational teams to resolve account issues and improve collection performance.
  • Escalating risks, issues, and opportunities for improvement to the Credit Manager.
  • Providing support and cover across the wider Credit Control team when required.
  • Attending team meetings, training sessions, and occasional depot visits.
Qualifications
Essential
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Credit Control role.
  • Proven experience managing multiple customer accounts and resolving complex billing queries.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Good general education including GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • CICM qualification or working towards completion.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • A proactive approach with excellent attention to detail.
Desirable
  • Experience using Access Dimensions, Focal Point, aCloud CRM, or similar systems.
  • Experience working within a multi-site or service-led organisation.
