Job summary

Morriston Comprehensive School in Swansea seeks a School Cover Supervisor (Grade 5 / SCP 7-9) on a pro rata basis. This 32.5-hour week, 39-week temporary post covers classes and manages learning when work is set by teachers.

The successful applicant will follow school policies, maintain pupil behaviour, assist with admin tasks and invigilation, and support learning across subjects as required.

Responsibilities

• To manage the learning of pupils for whom work has been set by a teacher.
• To ensure pupils undertake the work set, remain on task and are provided with an environment conductive to learning.
• To manage classroom resources to facilitate learning.
• To undertake basic assessment of pupils’ work where appropriate.
• To liaise closely with Teachers and Heads of Department in receiving and returning work that has been set.
• To follow school policies and procedures in relation to classroom routines and to pupil behaviour, discipline, sanctions and rewards.
• To cover registration for absent teachers, including taking the register, accompanying the form to assembly, undertaking collective worship and giving information to pupils as necessary.
• To assist departments and the school in administrative work. Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Headteacher.
• Assist with other Learning Support Assistant duties when not required to cover. This could include learning support for individuals or groups of students such as helping students with special needs in some mainstream classes by reading texts to students or being a scribe; helping students plan work; helping the subject teacher to produce suitable material; removing students for more intensive explanations of subject matter or supporting practical subjects for students who have physical difficulties.

The primary responsibility is to cover classes and manage learning where work has been set by teachers. In order to undertake this responsibility effectively it will be necessary to understand and follow school policies and procedures and to develop and maintain good professional relationships with pupils and staff.
