Astro Education is recruiting experienced Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools across Manchester and surrounding areas. Roles available full-time and part-time with consistent work, offering flexible opportunities and competitive daily rates based on experience.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Supervising classes across a range of subjects and year groups.
• Delivering lessons using work and resources provided by the class teacher.

• Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
• Creating and maintaining a calm, positive and productive learning environment.
• Providing clear instructions and supporting pupils with their work.
• Answering questions and assisting pupils where appropriate.
• Ensuring all pupils complete the work set by the teacher.
• Monitoring pupil progress and engagement throughout lessons.
• Following school policies and procedures at all times.

About the Opportunity

Astro Education are working in partnership with a range of welcoming and supportive secondary schools across Manchester and the surrounding areas, who are looking for experienced Cover Supervisors to join their teams.

We have a range of full-time and part-time opportunities available, making these roles ideal for experienced Cover Supervisors looking for consistent work, flexibility or the opportunity to work across different secondary school settings.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play an important role in maintaining continuity of learning when teachers are absent. You will supervise classes, deliver pre-set work and ensure pupils remain focused, engaged and well behaved throughout lessons.

Our partner schools are looking for confident, reliable and adaptable individuals who can quickly establish positive relationships with pupils and confidently manage a secondary classroom.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, your responsibilities may include:

• Supervising classes across a range of subjects and year groups
• Delivering lessons using work and resources provided by the class teacher
• Ensuring pupils remain engaged and focused on their learning
• Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
• Creating and maintaining a calm, positive and productive learning environment
• Providing clear instructions and supporting pupils with their work
• Answering questions and assisting pupils where appropriate
• Ensuring all pupils complete the work set by the teacher
• Monitoring pupil progress and engagement throughout lessons
• Following school policies and procedures at all times
• Reporting any issues or concerns to the appropriate member of staff
• Supporting the wider school team where required
• Maintaining a strong focus on pupil safety and safeguarding
• Supporting a smooth and consistent learning experience for pupils

What We're Looking For

We are looking for experienced Cover Supervisors who are:

• Experienced working within a secondary school environment
• Confident managing classes of secondary-aged pupils
• Comfortable supervising lessons across a range of subjects
• Strong classroom management skills
• Able to establish authority while building positive relationships with pupils
• Calm, confident and adaptable in challenging situations
• Reliable, punctual and professional
• Able to follow lesson plans and instructions effectively
• Confident communicating with pupils and school staff
• Able to use initiative and work independently
• Committed to creating a safe, respectful and positive learning environment
• Passionate about supporting young people and their education

Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or within a similar secondary education role is highly desirable.
