Job summary

RBKC is seeking a Council Tax Officer to provide supportive, accurate guidance to residents. You will handle billing queries, explain discounts and exemptions, and help customers understand their bills with empathy and clear, practical advice.

Based in the Borough for three days each week, you’ll maintain Council Tax records, generate reports, and support recovery processes from initial billing through to court where needed, working with Benefits, Valuation, Citizens Advice and external

Qualifications

• Strong command of English and Mathematics; able to explain complex calculations clearly.
• Good IT skills; experience with revenues and benefits systems and standard office software.
• Experience in a Council Tax service or similar environment highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Answer residents' queries by phone, email, and face-to-face; provide guidance on Council Tax bills, discounts and exemptions.
• Support residents facing financial difficulties with empathetic, practical payment solutions.
• Maintain accurate Council Tax records and assist with court cases when required.
