The primary purpose of this role is to deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across the CORE Pathways and Impact programmes at Heart of Worcestershire College. This is a 0.8 FTE (4 days a week) post focused on supporting learners who require an engaging, personalised and practical approach to education.
The successful candidate will deliver Personal Development programmes, Functional Skills English and Maths, employability, Thrive and progression activities designed to develop learners' confidence, resilience, independence and readiness for further education, apprenticeships or employment.
Working predominantly with learners who have experienced barriers to education, including those who are CORE or at risk of becoming CORE, the postholder will play a key role in preventing disengagement by delivering engaging learning, coaching and personalised support that develops learners' confidence, resilience and readiness for their next steps.
The role extends beyond classroom delivery and includes planning and facilitating community projects, enterprise activities, volunteering opportunities, employer engagement, social action projects, educational visits and enrichment activities that develop learners' personal, social and employability skills whilst strengthening links with the local community.
The successful candidate will inspire learners through practical, motivational and learner-centred approaches, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment where every learner feels valued, supported and challenged to achieve their potential. Knowledge of local employers, charities, community organisations and support services would be advantageous in developing meaningful learning opportunities and progression pathways.
As a CORE Tutor/Lecturer, the postholder will be responsible for monitoring attendance, learner progress and achievement, setting individual targets, completing learner reviews and maintaining accurate records through college systems including ProMonitor and Unit-e. The role also involves supporting learners with additional needs and barriers to learning, working collaboratively with internal support teams and external agencies to remove barriers and improve learner outcomes.
The postholder will contribute to curriculum planning, quality improvement activities, enrichment opportunities and continuous professional development to ensure the Pathways and Impact provision continues to meet the needs of learners, employers and the wider community.
The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Academic Staff.

Salary for the CORE Tutor role will be aligned to the College Lecturing Pay Scale up to Lecturer Scale Point 15 up to £30,705.60, dependent upon qualifications and experience. Staff appointed to the CORE Tutor role will progress through the agreed salary scale on an annual incremental basis, subject to satisfactory performance and successful completion of probationary requirements.
Salary for the CORE Lecturer role will be aligned to the College Lecturing Pay Scale, dependent upon qualifications and experience. Staff appointed to the CORE Lecturer role will progress through the full lecturing pay scale on an annual incremental basis up to point 33 at £41,413, subject to satisfactory performance and successful completion of probationary requirements.
All appointments will be made in line with the College’s approved pay and grading arrangements.
The hours of work will be based on 29.6 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum.
The post carries 37 days of bookable annual leave, plus 8 public bank holidays and 6 efficiency days.
Please note that only in exceptional circumstances, with your directors permission, will staff be able to take more than 3 consecutive weeks of leave in any leave year.
The post is eligible for membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS).
All newly appointed staff have to serve a 4 month probationary period. During the probationary period you will have to complete the Corporate staff induction, a Teaching and Learning Induction session if you deliver learning and additional mandatory courses on: Equality & Diversity session, Keeping Children safe in Education, Safeguarding Training session, Prevent, GDPR, Cyber Securityand Health & Safety training session. Failure to complete these will prevent you from successfully completing your probation.
All candidates have to have 2 satisfactory references.
The successful applicant will be based cross campus.
The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up.
If you are required to obtain a qualification as a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds, and cannot therefore guarantee that newly appointed staff will receive either part or full funding for the course fees. However, student loan facilities are available.
All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If you are not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College.
