Job summary

Meridian Business Support Ltd is seeking a Production Shift Leader to oversee 80 staff across a swing shift rotation. The role requires hands-on management of people, workflow, output and safety to meet forecasted demand.

The successful candidate will lead by example, develop the team, and maintain production schedules while monitoring KPIs and overtime costs. This is a hands-on leadership position with weekend overtime and a shift allowance.

Job description

Production Shift Leader

The Opportunity:

The Production Shift Leaderwill assume responsibility for 80 staff across a swing shift rotation (6-2/2-10 7 days per week). The role does require overtime being worked on the weekend, which is well recompensed, but applicants should be aware. This shift orientated role will require you to utilise all of your Manufacturing Management / Production Supervisory skills in a pro-active and hands on manner. The purpose of the role is to effectively manage a large manufacturing team and equipment resources to optimise production workflow, maximise employee performance and ensure consistent, on time delivery to meet forecasted customer demand.

The Role:

• You will effectively lead a team of 80 staff in a busy production environment, focussing on the management of people, workflow, performance, output, quality and health & safety.
• Build a strong team culture based on communication, collaboration, and engagement.
• Lead by example and provide guidance to your team, helping them develop their skills and reach their full potential.
• Meet production schedules, achieve key performance indicators (KPIs), and contribute to the overall success of the department.
• Analyse production processes, identify and resolve challenges, and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Develop and implement operational plans, manage resources efficiently, and oversee daily activities.
• Engage employees through daily meetings and provide insightful performance evaluations.
• Track production metrics, ensure KPIs are met, and continuously improve team practices.
• Track overtime weekly to control cost and optimize productivity. Ensure a fair approach when allocating overtime.

Preferred Skills:

• You’ll be a proven Manufacturing Manager / Production Manager used to managing upwards of 50 staff in a shift based position.
• Management of people, workflow, performance, output, quality and health & safety are all ESSENTIAL experiences which the successful candidate must possess.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient listener who actively engages stakeholders and articulates ideas and plans with clarity
• Demonstrates a keen sense of organisation, ensuring smooth workflows and efficient progress
• Ability to use analytical skills to identify production issues and implement effective solution

Working Hours:

6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm Monday to Friday alternative weeks, PLUS 6 hours overtime required either on Saturday (at time and a half) OR Sunday (double time). The role also offers a 12.5% uplift due to the shift allowance.

Associated Benefits:

Basic salary in the region of £35000, plus 12.5% shift allowance and overtime. A range of benefits including company bonus and an excellent pension scheme and 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays. Progression is encouraged, as is professional development.
