Job summary

The University Of Bristol is seeking a lab support assistant to help run day-to-day operations in clinical science laboratories. You will help maintain equipment, PPE, and safe waste handling, while supporting ordering, stock control, and record-keeping across sites.

Based at the Dorothy Hodgkin Building and Bristol Royal Infirmary, you may work at other Faculty of Health and Life Sciences sites. The role requires attention to detail and the ability to learn new software and procedures.

Qualifications

• Some experience of working in a laboratory or equivalent practical skills.
• Good IT skills and ability to learn new software or IT systems.
• Excellent organisational skills, with ability to prioritise tasks and cope under pressure.
• Ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
• Proven experience of completing tasks with accuracy and a methodical approach.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintaining laboratory equipment and PPE, including testing and cleaning.
• Work in line with Health & Safety guidelines and waste handling procedures.
• Maintain stocks of materials and consumables using the University purchasing system.
• Place, check, and manage received orders; keep inventories and deliveries records.
• Support teaching/research activities with equipment use such as PCR machines and autoclaves.
