Job summary

Historic England is seeking a part-time Copyright Project Officer (Creative Content Exchange) in Swindon. The role provides specialist archive expertise to support the Creative Content Exchange (CCE) pilot, reviewing archive collections for suitability, conducting rights research, and documenting decisions to enable compliant access and reuse.

Qualifications

• Experience of copyright, intellectual property rights and rights management in an archive, library, heritage or similar environment.
• Experience of researching archive collections, provenance and ownership to support access and decision-making.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to make evidence-based recommendations and assess risk.
• Experience of delivering work within a project environment, managing priorities and maintaining accurate records and documentation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners.

Responsibilities

• Review archive collections to assess suitability for the Cultural Content Exchange platform.
• Undertake rights research, provenance investigation and copyright assessment.
• Document decisions clearly to support risk-managed access and reuse.
• Collaborate with Project Manager, Archive colleagues, Legal Services, Digital teams and external partners.
• Help maximise accessibility and value of archive collections while ensuring compliance.
