To be responsible for the preparation, production, and finishing of a wide variety of food dishes according to the menu, using modern catering technology, recipes, and work methods. As a Chef/Cook, you'll be the backbone of our culinary operations, creating delicious meals and ensuring our clients receive nutritious delights.
Based in Twerton, Bath, you will deliver nutritious mid-day meals to customers within the extra care service at Avondown House or to visitors at day services. This role offers an opportunity to bring your catering expertise to different community groups.
Responsibilities
- Use high-level cooking skills to produce food dishes using modern food technology and methods, including meeting special dietary requests.
- Ensure residents can request their preferred food options, that catering staff are aware, and that access to food and snacks is available 24/7. Safely deliver food to residents at their preferred location.
- Assist catering staff with serving, supervision, and replenishment of food supplies as needed.
- Help maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, dining area, and equipment regularly, following Health & Safety and COSHH guidelines.
- Supervise catering assistants, ensuring safe use of equipment and correct procedures.
- Contribute to meal planning, ordering supplies, and monitoring stock, maintaining appropriate records.
- Monitor hygiene, health, and safety standards, including recording fridge, freezer, and food temperatures per regulations.
- Maintain regular contact with catering staff and customers to ensure satisfaction with the service.
- Participate in induction, ongoing training, and support the induction of new staff.
- Handle small amounts of cash if required and work across different catering units within reasonable travel distances.
- Maintain confidentiality and contribute to safeguarding vulnerable adults per policies.
- Promote health, safety, and security in the workplace, adhering to all relevant regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Service, consistent with the role level.
Requirements
- Enhanced DBS check (Essential)
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Compliance with mandatory training requirements
- Food Handling & Hygiene certificate
- Commitment to personal and professional development, including upskilling opportunities
- First Aid training at an appropriate level
- Knowledge of dietary needs for older adults and understanding of environmental health regulations
- Ability to comply with Health & Safety regulations and COSHH
- Flexibility to support various services and work environments
- Ability to analyze data accurately and pay attention to detail
- Practical cooking skills for large groups, including balanced and special diets, with creativity in menu planning
- Ability to relate well to older people
