Job summary

The Adecco Group UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced Cook for The Bungalow Children’s Home in Eastbourne. The role involves planning, preparing and serving nutritious meals for young people and staff, meeting dietary requirements and upholding high food safety standards. Contract: Temporary (initial 6 weeks with potential extension).

Pay rate: £13.05 per hour. Hours: Mon-Fri 1:00 PM–7:00 PM; alternating Sat/Sun 9:00 AM–6:00 PM.

Qualifications

  • Experience preparing and cooking meals independently.
  • Ability to produce good-quality, nutritious meals.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling practices.
  • Experience of stock control and ordering within a budget.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within a catering environment.
  • Empathy and understanding when working in a care setting.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious meals daily.
  • Plan balanced menus, taking into account dietary requirements and preferences.
  • Manage food ordering, stock control and kitchen supplies.
  • Check and receive deliveries.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment.
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health and safety, and food management procedures.
  • Complete all required kitchen records and documentation.
  • Support the smooth operation of the kitchen and meal service.
  • Undertake kitchen cleaning duties and ensure equipment is maintained to a high standard.

The Bungalow Children's Home, Sorrel Drive, Eastbourne, BN23 8BH

Contract: Temporary (6 weeks initially with potential to extend)

Pay Rate: £13.05 per hour

Hours:
Monday to Friday: 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Every other Saturday and Sunday: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Days off provided during the week when working a weekend

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Cook to join our team at The Bungalow Children’s Home in Eastbourne. You will be responsible for planning, preparing and serving nutritious, high-quality meals for young people and staff, ensuring all dietary requirements are met while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in producing home-cooked meals, and understands the importance of creating a positive dining experience within a residential care environment.
