Job summary

Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of Coventry City Council for an experienced Cook in a residential care setting in Coventry. The role focuses on preparing nutritious, fresh lunches and evening meals for residents, respite service users and staff.

The ideal candidate will have Food Safety/Hygiene certificates, prior Cook experience in care environments, and a dependable, compassionate approach to working with vulnerable adults.

Qualifications

  • Food Safety Level 1 or Level 2 Certificate (preferred).
  • Food Hygiene Level 1 or Level 2 Certificate (preferred).
  • Experience in a Cook role, especially in residential care settings, is desirable.
  • Experience catering for groups of approximately 15–21 people.
  • Understanding of food hygiene regulations and safe food handling procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook fresh lunch and evening meals daily.
  • Cater for vulnerable adults with learning disabilities in a residential care setting.
  • Provide nutritious, home-cooked meals for residents, respite service users and staff.
  • Follow all food hygiene, food safety and kitchen safety procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food preparation.
  • Support dietary requirements and meal planning as required.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Location: Coventry, CV4 8HH

Pay Rate: £13.05 per hour PAYE

Hours: 24 hours per week

Shift Pattern: 10:00am - 6:00pm (rota basis)

Contract Type: Temporary, until October 2026

Opus People Solutions are currently recruiting on behalf of our Client, Coventry City Council for an experienced Cook to join a residential care setting in Coventry on a temporary basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and reliable cook who enjoys preparing fresh, home-cooked meals and making a positive difference to the lives of vulnerable adults.

Working within a supportive residential environment, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious lunch and evening meals for residents, respite service users, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook fresh lunch and evening meals daily.
  • Cater for vulnerable adults with learning disabilities within a residential care setting.
  • Provide nutritious, home-cooked meals for:
  • Approximately 10 residential residents
  • Approximately 5 respite service users
  • Approximately 6 staff members
  • Follow all food hygiene, food safety, and kitchen safety procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food preparation.
  • Support dietary requirements and meal planning as required.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
  • Food Safety Level 1 or Level 2 Certificate.
  • Food Hygiene Level 1 or Level 2 Certificate.
  • Level 1 qualifications will be considered, although Level 2 is preferred.
Experience
  • Previous experience working as a Cook.
  • Experience within a residential care home or similar care environment.
  • Experience catering for groups of approximately 15 to 21 people.
  • Understanding of food hygiene regulations and safe food handling procedures.
