Job summary

Manpower Group (UK) is recruiting a Cook to join a busy public sector catering unit in Heath, Cardiff. You will prepare, cook and serve a variety of dishes, including fresh meals for staff and visitors, while upholding high standards of food quality and hygiene.

Shifts are 5:00 pm–1:00 am, with any 5 days from 7 including weekends. The role is temporary with weekly PAYE wages and benefits such as pension and uniform.

Qualifications

• Previous cook experience in a commercial kitchen.
• Experience preparing fresh, homemade meals.
• Valid Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
• Able to work evenings and weekends with reliability.

Responsibilities

• Preparing fresh meals including curries and lasagnes.
• Cooking and regenerating menu items such as pizzas and goujons.
• Support daily kitchen operations in restaurant and canteen.
• Maintain food quality and ensure meals are served on time.
• Follow food hygiene and safety procedures.
• Manage stock rotation and keep kitchen tidy.
• Deliver excellent customer service to staff and visitors.

The Role

You will prepare, cook, and serve a variety of dishes, including regenerating pre-prepared meals and producing fresh homemade-style meals such as curries and lasagnes. The role requires maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and customer service while working as part of a wider catering team.

Main Responsibilities

• Preparing fresh meals including curries, lasagnes, and other homemade-style dishes
• Cooking and regenerating menu items such as pizzas and chicken goujons
• Supporting daily kitchen operations in the main restaurant and canteen
• Maintaining food quality and ensuring meals are served within agreed timescales
• Following food hygiene and safety procedures at all times
• Managing stock rotation and keeping the kitchen clean and organised
• Delivering excellent customer service to staff and visitors

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen
• Experience preparing fresh, homemade meals
• Valid Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
• Strong understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene
• Reliable, flexible, and able to work evening and weekend shifts

This role is subject to satisfactory references. We are looking for someone who can start within one week.
