Job summary

Automation Experts in Hampshire is seeking a Controls / Electrical Design Engineer to join an expanding team. You will design bespoke control panels and support PLC work from concept through to testing, with hands-on electrical design and CAD responsibilities.

The role focuses on AutoCAD Electrical, Siemens TIA Portal PLCs, and close collaboration with engineering and production teams to deliver integrated control solutions. Commutable from Basingstoke, Farnborough, Aldershot or Winchester.

Qualifications

• Formal qualification in electrical or engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical is beneficial.
• Experience with PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal preferred).

Responsibilities

• Create 2D electrical schematics, layout drawings, and wiring diagrams using CAD software.
• Support PLC programming and modifications using Siemens TIA Portal.
• Collaborate with engineering and production to integrate control systems into equipment.
• Support panel build by providing documentation and clarifying design intent.
• Document design changes and participate in design reviews.
• Assist during FAT/SAT stages as needed.

If you've worked your way up through panel building, controls or electrical engineering, you'll have the chance to develop your CAD design experience while working on one-off engineering projects from concept through to testing.

Controls / Electrical Design Engineer - The Role:

• Assist in creating 2D electrical schematics, layout drawings, and wiring diagrams using CAD software such as AutoCAD Electrical for bespoke control panels.
• Support PLC programming and modifications using Siemens TIA Portal (other PLC experience considered)
• Collaborate with the wider engineering and production teams to support the integration of control systems into equipment and installations
• Support the panel build process by providing documentation and clarifying design intent to the assembly team
• Help document design changes and participate in design reviews
• Assist during testing, FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) stages as needed

Controls / Electrical Design Engineer - The Person:

• A formal qualification in Electrical or Engineering-related discipline (e.g., HNC/HND or equivalent) OR prior experience in a similar role
• Experience in AutoCAD Electrical beneficial
• Experience of concept programming on PLCs (Siemens TIA preferred)
• A practical, hands- on approach to problem- solving and strong attention to detail
• Keen to learn and develop across both electrical design and controls.

Located in Hampshire, this role would be commutable from Basingstoke, Farnborough, Aldershot or Winchester.
