Job summary

Ernest Gordon Recruitment Limited is looking for a Controls Engineer in Huddersfield to join a specialist controls business offering strong training and real career progression across the full project lifecycle.

You will design customer-specific control philosophies, electrical schematics and panels, develop PLC and HMI systems (Siemens/Omron preferred), and support testing, commissioning and on-site client work, with mentoring to progress toward a Senior Engineer role.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Controls Engineer or similar.
• Electrical Engineering qualification (HNC/HND, degree or apprenticeship).
• Siemens or Omron PLC/HMI experience preferred.
• Strong fault-finding, communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Designing customer-specific control philosophies and electrical schematics using relay logic and PLC programming.
• Designing control panel layouts, wiring diagrams and Bills of Materials using CAD software.
• Developing and supporting PLC and HMI programming tasks, including Siemens systems.
• Monday to Friday with occasional travel to customer sites.

Controls Engineer (Training/Progression)

Are you a Controls Engineer or similar looking to join a specialist controls business offering excellent training and career progression where you will play a key role in designing and delivering bespoke industrial automation systems?

This role would suit a Controls Engineer or similar with at least 2 years' experience, an Electrical Engineering qualification, and hands‑on experience with industrial control systems who is looking for a varied role with excellent training and career progression.

In this role, the successful controls engineer will assist with project costing, design electrical schematics and control panels, develop PLC and HMI systems, support panel manufacturing, carry out testing, and attend client sites for commissioning and technical support.

The Role:

• Designing customer‑specific control philosophies and electrical schematics using relay logic and PLC programming

• Developing and supporting PLC and HMI programming tasks, including Siemens systems

The Person:

• Controls Engineer or similar background with a minimum of 2 years' experience
• HNC/HND, degree or recognised apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• Siemens, Omron or similar PLC/HMI experience (Preferred)
• Strong fault-finding, communication and organisational skills
