Job summary

Actemium Automation Peterborough is seeking a proactive Software Controls Systems Engineer to join our control system software team. The role involves developing, commissioning and supporting PLC, HMI and SCADA solutions across industrial automation projects, collaborating with project managers, control hardware engineers, suppliers and customers to meet safety standards and client expectations.

Qualifications

• Experience in control system software development, commissioning and testing.
• Familiarity with Rockwell Automation or Siemens PLCs.
• Ability to produce clear control system documentation.
• Willingness to travel UK and international client sites.

Responsibilities

• Develop clear, maintainable control system software (PLC, HMI, SCADA) using industry platforms.
• On-site commissioning, integration and testing of control systems.
• Create and review control system documentation (e.g. FDS).
• Lead FAT and SAT activities with customers and project teams.
• Collaborate with multiple departments to deliver projects on time and budget.
• Provide technical support, troubleshooting and remote diagnostics.
• Ensure compliance with SHEQ procedures and industry best practices.
• Contribute to standardisation of control libraries and reusable code.
• Coach and mentor junior software engineers.
• Attend client meetings and site visits with professional communication.
