Job summary

Actemium Automation Warrington, part of VINCI Energies, seeks a Senior Software Controls Engineer to lead the development of control and automation software for industrial systems. This hands-on engineering role combines software design, PLC/SCADA integration, and technical leadership to deliver robust solutions.

The role requires on-site work in Warrington with travel to client sites for commissioning and support, including collaboration with project teams and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years experience in control software engineering with PLC/SCADA systems.
• Strong programming skills in ladder, structured text and scripting languages.
• Experience with Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000 or similar.
• Knowledge of PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, OPC/UA.
• Practical understanding of commissioning, diagnostics and on-site issue resolution.
• Good documentation skills and ability to write specs and test procedures.
• Strong problem-solving and methodical testing approach.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead software design and development for PLCs and SCADA/HMI.
• Develop software architecture, standards and reusable libraries.
• Author and maintain functional specs, software design docs, test plans and FAT/SAT procedures.
• Perform unit, integration and system tests; support FAT, SAT and commissioning.
• Collaborate with project managers, control, mechanical and electrical teams to deliver projects.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
