Job summary

The University of Lancashire is seeking a Control Room Operator to safeguard our campus community. You will monitor CCTV and security systems, respond to enquiries and incidents, and guide colleagues and campus users with clear, helpful information.

Joining our security team, you will work a rotating pattern with 2 x 12-hour days and 2 x 12-hour nights, and you may cover other shifts and campuses as required.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs including English Language and Maths (grade C/4 or higher) or equivalent experiential learning.
  • Experience in security or related environments.
  • Ability to follow procedures meticulously and work in a customer-focused setting.

Responsibilities

About the role:

As a Control Room Operator, you will play a key role in supporting the safety and wellbeing of our university community. You will monitor and manage CCTV and security systems, respond to enquiries and incidents, and provide clear, helpful guidance to colleagues and campus users.

Working at the heart of campus operations, you will liaise closely with officers across our sites, ensuring information is shared effectively and accurately recorded. This is a role that combines attention to detail with a calm, approachable presence, helping to create an environment where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to succeed.

The role follows a rotating shift pattern of 2 x 12-hour days, 2 x 12-hour nights, followed by 4 rest days, with flexibility to support other shifts and campuses when required.

About you:

We welcome applications from people with experience in security or related environments, as well as those who can demonstrate relevant transferable skills from other roles. You will bring sound judgement, a supportive approach, and the ability to work confidently as part of a team.

You will have experience in a customer focussed environment and the ability to follow procedures meticulously.

A range of GCSEs, including English Language and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or appropriate equivalent experiential learning are essential for this role.
