Job summary

Trant Engineering Ltd in Southampton seeks a Control Panel Test Engineer to inspect, test and verify control panels, MCCs and automation systems before dispatch from our Totton/Southampton workshop.

You will ensure compliance with BS EN 61439-2:2021, support FATs with clients, and maintain thorough test records while working safely within our SHEQ framework. A strong background in electrical testing and relevant safety training is essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 / HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of BS EN 61439-2:2021 testing and verification.
• Electrical safety and testing training including safe isolation.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams and GA drawings.
• Proven experience testing control panels, MCCs or automation systems.
• Experience carrying out routine verification testing per BS EN 61439-2.
• Hands-on testing: functional, insulation resistance, continuity and operation.
• Experience reporting non-conformances and assisting rectification.
• Experience testing MCCs, control panels and intelligent MCC/PLC systems.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and verify control panels, MCCs and automation systems before dispatch.
• Ensure compliance with BS EN 61439-2, client requirements and internal procedures.
• Set up instrumentation and test equipment for thorough verification.
• Maintain traceability of components and test results.
• Prepare final documentation for handover to clients.
• Support FAT with clients or third-party inspectors.
• Assist with fault-finding during test phases.
• Ensure testing activities are carried out safely per H&S procedures.
