We are looking for a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this area of law and practice. This role offers an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills through a variety of work.
You will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers, providing legal advice on issues including Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC and JCT construction Contracts, among others. You will manage a full and varied caseload.
Senior Lawyers are expected to participate in team management and deputise for the Principal Solicitor, contributing to the delivery of legal services.
We seek a dynamic individual with some experience in managing and supervising others, capable of motivating a team.
Shortlisting Criteria
Applicants must be Solicitors, barristers, or Fellows of CILEX eligible to practice in England and Wales with a current practicing certificate. Experience in drafting construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management is required. The candidate should be solutions-focused, quick to learn new subjects, and capable of managing priorities to meet deadlines. Effective communication and client care skills are essential, as is advising Members and Senior Officers of the Council.
The role is hybrid, with remote work considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, and the candidate will need to collect their laptop from the Reigate office on the first day.
The role involves managing a team of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees. The role contributes to the wider management of Legal Services and embodies the council's values and behaviors.
You will manage a demanding caseload, deliver innovative solutions with minimal supervision, and support the council's goal to reduce reliance on external legal support. Advocacy duties may be required.
You will assist the Monitoring Officer in advising the Council on illegality or procedural defaults, and contribute to staff training on legal issues.
