We are looking for a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this area of law and practice. This role offers an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills through varied and quality work.
You will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers, providing proactive legal advice on issues including Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC and JCT construction Contracts, and general contract queries. You will manage a full and demanding caseload.
Senior Lawyers will play an active role in team management, deputising for the Principal Solicitor and contributing to the delivery of legal services.
We seek a dynamic individual with some management experience, capable of motivating others and working effectively in a team environment.
Shortlisting Criteria
Applicants must be Solicitors, barristers, or Fellows of CILEX, eligible to practice in England and Wales, with a current practicing certificate. Experience in negotiating and drafting construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management services is required. The ability to provide solutions-focused advice, learn quickly, and manage priorities is essential. Effective team working, client engagement, and advising Members and Senior Officers of the Council are also necessary.
The role is hybrid, with remote work considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, and the candidate will need to collect their laptop from the Reigate office on the first day.
The role involves managing a team of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees. The role supports the wider management of Legal Services, embodying the council's values and behaviors.
You will manage a varied caseload, deliver solutions with minimal supervision, and support the council's goal to reduce reliance on external legal support. Advocacy duties may be required.
The role includes supporting the Monitoring Officer in legal oversight and contributing to staff training on law and emerging issues.
