Job summary

Biffa Group is seeking a Contract Supervisor to oversee daily operations at Somerset Recycling Centres, ensuring safety, efficiency and high service standards. You will manage staff, budgets and compliance while coordinating maintenance and reporting across contracted sites.

The role combines hands-on site activity with administration and people management, requiring strong leadership and stakeholder engagement to deliver value for the client and customers.

Qualifications

• Experience managing local authority contracts, ideally within recycling or waste management.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety, environmental and transport legislation.
• Proven experience leading large teams and developing people.
• Ability to manage budgets and achieve targets.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Independent, able to handle fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day operations across the Somerset Recycling Centres, ensuring sites run safely, efficiently and to required standards.
• Lead, support and motivate Site Managers, Site Operatives and agency staff, ensuring staffing and training levels are maintained.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental legislation, permits and company procedures.
• Plan and organise staff, agency resources, equipment and other operational requirements within budgets.
• Drive recycling performance and operational efficiency, ensuring materials are processed and dispatched safely and legally.
• Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance with Facilities Management to keep plant/equipment safe and operational.
• Maintain strong relationships with the client, customers, contractors and regulators to ensure excellent service.
